March 17, Saturday, Day 166

Eastbank Campground, Lake Seminole, GA.

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

Needing some exercise, I decided to test my stamina on the contours of the Lake. I rode 10.54 miles in 43 minutes 29 seconds. I hoped to burn a bunch of calories and make room for corned beef and cabbage with a wee bit o’ beer; mission accomplished!

Silly us expecting to find corned beef in the one and only grocery store in Chattahoochee. It closed one year ago and the Piggly Wiggly 5 miles away has none left.

It’s been raining most of yesterday and today so not much happening. But the Zags play at 8PM and the one and only bar in Chattahoochee has 12 TVs, so I attribute that to the Luck o’ the Irish and we’ll be on our way!

We each ordered entrees to fill our bellies and absorb any beer in which we might partake. The food was great and the game was on! GU jumped out to a 15-0 lead and I thought, “Oh No!”; games like that normally go badly. And, sure enough, by the middle of the second half Ohio State had the lead.

A logistical complication for us personally was that the campground locks the gates at 10PM meaning we’d have to park the truck outside and walk down to the trailer. Penny was yawning incessantly; so I suggested she get home to bed and I’d walk home after the game (only a mile). She left at 9:45 with the game close.

Then the Zags pulled away by 10, only to let the Buckeyes go on a 10-5 scoring run to cut the lead to 5. In the end, the Gonzaga Bulldogs won 90-84 to go to the Sweet 16 for the fourth year in a row! Luckily, my cell phone still had a charge; without it I would not have been able to see where I was going! The waxing moon had set and it was pitch black!
